Labor Day – Riverside

Two weeks without flying, time to get in the air again. Typical to Southern California and early September, it’s hot outside, which means flying in the morning (or sweating a lot). We considered a quick hop over to Brackett (KPOC) but when I called Norm’s Hangar Restaurant this morning all I could get was a recording. My next-door hangar friend Steve told me a while back that Riverside (KRAL) has a nice little restaurant so I called there to see if they were open today. The cheery lady that answered the phone said they were open until two and to “have a great day darling.”

Google maps had it as a 39 minute drive (with no traffic) but the stopwatch my wife timed on her phone from taking the runway in Fullerton to landing in Riverside was 18 minutes. The flight was a nice short little hop, and as far as airport restaurants go the food was great. Prices were reasonable and the portions were big. After breakfast we made the quick flight back to Fullerton and were on the ground before the temps got too high, a couple nice fun morning flights with some food sandwiched in between them.
